Call for Contributions to a Monograph: Social Work and Poverty
As part of its series of monographs, ERIS is preparing a book focusing on the current topic of poverty. The monograph devoted to this complex phenomenon aims to contribute to the discussion about the possibilities open to social work in preventing or tackling poverty and the barriers hindering social workers from providing effective help to clients.
In accordance with the concept of ERIS monographs, which emphasizes an international comparative approach, the book (and its individual chapters) should depict poverty in the macrosocial context of individual European countries and should discuss the fight against poverty as part of the local socio-political agenda as well as social work practice. The book/chapters should also bring an overview of the current state of theory and empirical research in the field. However, the main focus should be on the results of original empirical research studies by co-authors of the book, based on different types of quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods.
Therefore, we would welcome theoretical-empirical studies concerning
- various forms and "degrees" of poverty
- various groups which are poor or are threatened by poverty
- the everyday lives of poor individuals or households or those threatened by poverty – potential or current social work clients, their strategies for coping with the situation (especially the role of strategies based on social work help)
- methods and strategies of social workers’ "daily work" with clients who are threatened by poverty or poor.
The deadline for receipt of chapter abstracts (max. 500 words) is 28 February 2015. The decision of the coordinating team, along with detailed requirements on the content, length and formal requirements of the chapters, will be communicated to you by 15 June 2015.
