Spring School for Masters and PhD Students in Social Work in Europe (April 20–24, 2010)

The European Research Institute in Social Work (ERIS) offers the possibility to Masters and PhD Students in Social Work in Europe to present their thesis or work in a real European academic atmosphere and

  • to get feedback on their developing work from social work academics from different European countries
  • to exchange views and ideas with other European students
  • to extend their knowledge about social work in Europe
  • to contribute to a new European research network

Members of staff will come from the University of Ostrava (CZ), Kuopio (FIN), Eichstatt, Koln (D) Hertfordshire (UK) and Lille (FR), Trnava (SK), Poland (PL)

Students and academic colleagues who want to present their research results should prepare a ppt presentation of 10 – 15 minutes based on a 2-page text in English and submit the text not later than February 28, 2010 to the ERIS Office.

Each application for the Spring School should contain structured information as follows:

  1. University
  2. Title of paper
  3. Tutor
  4. Present state of research
  5. Research question
  6. Research methods
  7. Results if appropriate and literature

The ensuing discussion will be facilitated by one of the academic staff, and will consist of a critically evaluative debate which gives ideas for the development of the work.

The course will take place in Ostrava – Poruba (www.ostravainfo.cz).

Structure of the week
Tuesday 20. 4.Arrival day, dinner 19:00, info meeting
Wednesday 21. 4.Presentations, ERIS meeting (evening) 19:00 Theatre performance
Thursday 22. 4.Presentations, party (evening)
Friday 23. 4.Presentations, Observatory in Poruba
Saturday 24. 4.Morning: lecture Methodological aspects of research in social sciences (lecturer will be specified later), afternoon departure

Some presenters will be invited to submit their papers to the online ERIS Web Journal following review by the Editorial Group.

Accommodation is booked in the hotel part of the Halls of Residence of the Technical University of Ostrava with very good access from the centre of Ostrava. Full board will be provided in the canteen and seminars will take place in the lecture hall on campus.

Each participant will receive detailed pre-arrival information and a conference programme in advance.

Double room (per person/stay when occupied by 2 persons)80.00 €

Participants with special needs or requirements (e.g. diet, etc.) should ask the ERIS Office for help.
