Systematic, evidence-based and comparative social work provision in Europe

NOTICE: The validity of the information on this page has expired.

ERIS was formed from a long-standing partnership between European universities in 2008 in order to carry out objective, systematic inquiries into social problems and social work-related solutions to inform policy makers, managers, practitioners and academics of knowledge derived from comparative studies of European countries of interventions which might be utilized in their own countries.

The ERIS partners produce reports which enable the best policies and practices from European countries to be shared and understood within their different policy, legal, service delivery and practice contexts.

Examples of work currently being undertaken are child protection, youth offending, human trafficking, and the interface of the development of privatization of services within frameworks of public accountability.

Each systematic review includes analysis and comparison of:

  • Relevant philosophies, theories, policies and laws
  • Service provision from different types of agencies - public, NGO, private
  • Evidence of effectiveness of provision and programmes
  • Case studies illustrating how programmes work in each country studied
  • Any relevant ethical considerations

From these systematic reviews, ERIS provides unbiased reports and recommendations which are readily applicable to different policy and practice contexts.

ERIS provides experts for conferences, seminars, and consultancy work for those seeking to introduce policies and practices which are based upon European best practice in the social provision field.
