The importance of the workfield ... is emphasized especially by the relevance of social aspects of demographic ageing. The research illuminates the understanding of senior citizens’ resources influencing their autonomy in everyday life, their personal expectations both from informal support networks and formal institutions, their engagement in social interaction, and their individual experience of integration into social groups.

Doc. PhDr. Dana Sýkorová, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University, Olomouc, is currently lecturing in the  following courses of Bachelor’s and Master’s studies in Sociology, Andragogy and Social Work:

• Sociology of Family / Family and Society
• Ageing and Intergenerational Relations in the Family
• Senior Citizens in Society
• Methods of Quantitative Sociological Research
• Basics of Demography

Research activities are focused mainly on the issues of the sociology of family (kinship, family help and support, family in late middle age) and of gerontosociology (personal autonomy and social integration of senior citizens).

Activities in 2008:

• continuing to research in the field of social gerontology.
