Prof. Dr. Emmanuel Jovelin What is the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says ERIS?
ERIS means to me that each year I can meet my colleagues and friends such as Oldrich, Peter, Juha or Brian - I met all of them a long time ago.
ERIS for me is Ostrava and also Čeladná, because we began in Čeladná. ERIS for me is a research group at the Spring School.

What in my opinion makes ERIS unique?
Firstly it is a very good institution for PhD and Master's students, because the Spring School is a valuable experience for them. They practice writing and giving conference presentations at the Spring School, where they have a team of professors observing them and giving them advice. Personally, I recommend students to try it. I encourage them to write contributions and articles, because as students they do not have many opportunities like this. ERIS also offers cooperation and opportunities to develop research with other colleagues from different countries - so it is also about connections.

How has ERIS changed or influenced my life? Is there anything I have learned thanks to ERIS?
It has influenced my life by encouraging me to learn English, because each time I come to the Spring School it is necessary for me to learn my topic in English and this is not easy for me. So ERIS encourages me to read in English and write in English.
However, ERIS has also influenced my life in professional terms, because we have many expert discussions with my colleagues - so it has helped me to understand sociology and the theory of sociology, and I have come to specialize in international sociology.
