International Spring School of Social Work in Europe 2022 for master's and doctoral students
The 15th International Spring School of Social Work was held online from 27–29 April 2022. The event featured a total of 27 presenting student participants from 8 countries in 9 parallel sessions as well as 100 other participants from a total of 14 countries.
The programme focused mainly on students' presentations based on their master's or doctoral dissertations, accompanied by discussions with academics and group consultations. As in previous years, the programme included 2 keynote lectures and 2 parallel workshops held with 35 involved participants having presentations or being members of teams. In total, 14 academics from 9 countries were involved in moderating the sessions, discussions, and were offered individual consultations.
New to this year’s event were “round-tables”, which offered an opportunity for participants — both academics and students — to discuss various topics and find possible intersection for future cooperation in the field of research, publishing, and other scientific research activities. Three academics offered their topics for discussion. Prof. Brian Littlechild from the University of Hertfordshire (UK) opened the topic “Domestic violence and work with children”, Prof. Doris Böhler from the FH Vorarlberg (Austria) facilitated opportunity for discussion on the topic “Diversity, intersectionality and anti-discrimination in social work”, and one of the main conference organizers doc. Kateřina Glumbíková from the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) put forward the topic “Reflexivity in social work with vulnerable children” to the participants.
Thanks to cooperation with the Centre of Information Technologies and Marketing departments at the University of Ostrava we can offer you recordings of all sessions, keynote lectures and workshops that you might have missed because of parallel organization. You can watch them on demand now by clicking on the chosen session, lecture, or workshop.
Feedback Spring School 2022
Iveta Kowolová, FSS UO
I attended the Spring School for the first time as a first-year PhD student. Although I prefer face-to-face meetings and the opportunity to meet people in person, I would like to express my appreciation for the organization and schedule of this online conference. I found the time and structure of the individual sessions very pleasant, including ample time for breaks. I perceived the atmosphere of the whole spring school as collegial and open, and I very much appreciated the opportunity to actively participate and get feedback on my thesis master plan. Also, the topics of other colleagues and professors enriched my perspectives in the field of social work. I perceived a slight language barrier in myself that prevented me from engaging more in the discussions, however, it motivated me to work harder on my English and to meet my colleagues in person next year as well as to be more active in the discussions.
Thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to next year.

I really enjoyed the spring school. It was great to see how social work professionals from all over the world conduct their research. I also admire the dedication and open-minded approach of the staff of the University of Ostrava. Thus, it bothered me deeply that we could not see each other face to face due to the Corona crisis.

First and foremost, I like the interactive way of conducting the sessions during the Spring School. There was an exchange of knowledge among scholars from various universities across the globe through the platform I received to present my paper. The resource persons and the moderators made me feel comfortable throughout the sessions. I liked the fact that the programme was also directed towards improving our research skills in our respective fields. The programme was designed in such a way that knowledge was imparted, which was very essential for research scholars in days to come. As to the resource persons, they had excellent communication skills with in-depth knowledge of the subject they were speaking. I have personally learned a lot during these three days of International Spring School and received valuable suggestions and feedback on my paper. I look forward to attending the next Spring School in person.
