International Spring School of Social Work in Europe for Master's and PhD Students 2025
The 18th edition of the Spring School of Social Work took place from April 23 to 25, 2025, at the Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ostrava. This traditional international educational event is organized as part of the ERIS network – European Research Institute for Social Work.
The Spring School regularly provides a platform for international meetings between students and academics in the field of social work, serving as a space for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and examples of good practice. This year's event welcomed 50 students and professionals from various European countries. Additionally, PhD students from India and Nigeria presented their research online.
The 2025 edition offered a rich and diverse program composed of expert lectures, student presentations, discussions, and practical workshops.
Students presented their research on topics such as cultural and gender identity, volunteering, and social exclusion. Other contributions focused on mental health care, professional ethics, and trauma-informed social work.
One of the highlights of the program was a lecture by American sociologist Prof. Corey Dolgon entitled Sociology for Social Justice. Professor Dolgon, known for his engagement with issues of social inequality and political participation, emphasized the need to connect academic knowledge with practical efforts for social change.
Another notable lecture was delivered by Prof. Emmanuel Jovelin from France, who addressed ethical challenges in working with vulnerable groups and provided a comparative perspective on European approaches to professionalism and engagement in social work.
Participants also highly appreciated the workshop led by Kimii Bani, which focused on a creative approach to self-awareness and working with group dynamics through expressive techniques.
The Spring School offered attendees opportunities not only for professional and personal development, but also for building new international connections and fostering intercultural dialogue.
The Faculty of Social Studies extends its sincere thanks to all students, lecturers, guests, and organizers who contributed to the smooth and inspiring course of the event.
We look forward to seeing you again at the 19th anniversary edition in 2026, which will take place from April 28 to 30.
